STRIKE HIGHLIGHTS
Our picket lines are stronger than ever during Week 6 of our strike!
Local 11 member visiting from Los Angeles joined our picket line to show her support.
Strikers Gladys, Norma, and Rowela shared their stories as striking workers at a screening of the documentary Cane Fire at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
To keep cool in the afternoon heat, we passed out free popsicles to all the strikers on the line.
Congratulations Boston!
Hilton workers in Boston have reached a TA and will hold a ratification vote today after being on strike for 25 days
Calendar
-
10/31 (4-6pm) – Halloween on the beach
-
11/2 – Community March for Hilton Workers
Guests ring the “Refund Bell” on the beach
If you hear a cowbell on the beach, it is most likely the sound of a guest sharing with our leaflet crew on the beach that they successfully demanded a refund from Hilton. While Hilton has stated that they, “have contingency plans in place to ensure operations continue to run as smoothly as possible,” dozens of guests have reported receiving refunds because of the interruptions in services caused by the strike including:
• Amy, a Hilton Honors Diamond member who frequently stays at the Ali‘i Tower, reported receiving a $11,500 refund.
• Jennifer and Scott from Ohio reported getting a 100% of their stay refunded and shared that if they had known that workers were on strike they would not have stayed at the Village.
• Brittany Hernandez received a $1,200 refund and told our leafletters that she was not notified prior to her arrival adding, “We came to hang out and relax–now we are having to clean our own rooms.”
NEW VIDEO! Hilton Strike Floatilla Recap Video
We brought our picket line to the beach for a Floatilla Action where members of the community and guests from the Hilton Hawaiian Village helped us reflect on the greater purpose of this strike.
“When workers rise, we all rise...Mahalo you for taking this stand for yourselves, for your families, and the future of Hawai‘i.” –Keoni DeFranco, Purple Ma‘i Foundation
“We were promised that the hotel services would not be affected by the strike, but that obviously is not happening…You guys are the unsung heroes of this industry, without you this place does not work.” –Carlos Manuel Silva, Hilton Hawaiian Village Guest
