How I got my mortgage, care loan, and personal loan deferred while on strike
By April Raguindin, F&B, 9 years of service
When the strike was first called, I knew that I should be ready to be on strike for as long as it takes and that meant having a plan to take care of my bills.
My biggest expense every month is my mortgage payment so I called my mortgage creditor, Landhome Financial, by calling the number on my monthly statement. I was transferred several times, but eventually I was able to speak to someone who could help. They asked for my account number, last 4 digits of my social security card, and contact info to verify my identity. I recommend having that info ready when you call, otherwise you may have to call back.
They asked the reason for my call and I informed them that I was on strike and experiencing a financial crises so I would like to request a deferral. It took a couple of weeks to hear back, but thankfully my deferral request was approved until the end of the year and I will resume payments in December. I was also able to get my car loan and a personal loan deferred.
My advice to my coworkers on strike is to try all of the resources that have been posted and offered, every bit of help can make a huge difference while we are on strike!
We have made it this far, let’s stay strong
By Cindy Chan-Ikehara, F&B, 35 years of service
We are not only fighting for our future, but we are fighting for our guests. Even the ones who confront us or question our authenticity. We will not bow or be broken. The mana of our hearts remain strong and undeniably grows in strength. We all walk in support of our values and beliefs. We must stay strong and not falter.
What is the alternative? We have come so far together.
It is the goal of corporate to divide us. Because by now, you should know what we’re fighting for is much larger than us alone. We are winning this fight. We are union Strong. We might have a lot of opinions about how things have been run or maybe not run like we think it should. But really, it’s harder than it looks. And you know the old saying, you can’t make everybody happy at the same time. So I ask all of you this question, do you know what’s at stake here? Just basic humanity, respect, and a future we deserve.
